Murphy’s recurring groin problem

Portsmouth boss John Mousinho confirmed that Josh Murphy’s latest injury setback is not disastrous, but the winger still battles a recurring groin issue. Murphy was forced off shortly after coming on as a substitute during Portsmouth’s 3-1 victory over Lincoln City. Mousinho told the Portsmouth News that the injury is “the same thing he has been struggling with” and that Murphy “is a bit down at the moment.” He added that the player’s fitness will be reviewed on Sunday and Monday.

Murphy’s injury history includes a broken foot sustained in December, followed by the current groin problem. Mousinho noted that the player has had “those issues here and there” and that at times he thought Murphy might be available for the weekend or two weeks’ time, only to find him still unavailable.

Transfer window activity

Mousinho also confirmed that Portsmouth remain active in the transfer market. Speaking to Sky Sports, he said there is still “room for improvement” and that the club will have “a couple of incomings that we’ll have this week, leading up to the window closing next week.” The club’s transfer window is set to close next week, and the manager expects further signings before the deadline.

The club’s focus remains on strengthening the squad while managing player fitness issues such as Murphy’s recurring groin injury. The next few days will see the club’s transfer activity and the assessment of Murphy’s recovery progress.
