Portsmouth's academy has failed to progress under Michael Eisner's ownership, with only four players making the step up from academy to league football during his tenure. That's the damning verdict of The News' chief sports writer Neil Allen, who has assessed the current pathway to senior football for the Blues' young talents. However, no conveyor belt of rising stars has emerged, with only four players so far making the step up from academy to league football during the Eisner's tenure. Alex Bass, Haji Mnoga, Tayo Singerr, and Harry Jewitt-White are those contingent, although 24 youngsters have featured in the EFL Trophy for the Blues. Nevertheless, Pompey's struggles to bring through fresh talent is a huge concern to Allen, who is adamant the academy set-up at PO4 has not improved under owner Tornante's nine-year ownership. Speaking on the latest episode of Pompey Talk, he said: 'They actually promised to invest in Justins and Britneys. That was the phrase. They didn't promise that much from the speech when you look back at it, they certainly weren't promising to throw money at Pompey's situation. But this was a promise and without a shadow of a doubt the academy during their tenure so far has not improved whatsoever. 'It still remains a category three, there's still no dome which you need to go up a category, other clubs around them - albeit driven by Premier League money such as Bournemouth and Brighton - have long passed Pompey with their financing and infrastructure in terms of the academy system. So Pompey have been left behind. 'We've seen in recent years other clubs coming into the area like Chelsea being another one. It's a struggle for Pompey, it really is. 'The facts remain, since the Eisners came in August 2017, Pompey have produced four players who have featured in the Football League from the academy. Four players. One was Alex Bass, who was already around before the Eisners so I wouldn't necessarily claim that one. He'd been on the bench a few times and he even played in the League Cup under Paul Cook before the Eisner's came in as well. He played in the Football league when they were here. Harry Jewitt-White, who played a couple of times, Haji Mnoga, who played 18 times and he's just been released by Salford on Monday - although it needs to be pointed out he turned down a new deal. And the other one is Tayo Singerr, who has made one league appearance for Pompey so far. Of those four, Bass and Mnoga have played 18-plus times for Pompey in those nine years. That's it. These are facts, I know people have opinions on it but that's facts. Four players. It continues to be a concern, quite an obvious concern because yet again no players are coming through. Pompey are now in the Championship, they are not in League One, they aren't in League Two, where invariably academy players are getting more opportunities to impress the lower down the leagues they are. And there's no development group as well so the gap between the Championship and the academy is huge. 'It's a hugely disappointing area for Pompey, I know people have opinions on it but that's facts. It's dreadful Pompey's academy system is.
