Portsmouth were held to a goalless draw away at Charlton Athletic on Saturday afternoon. The result means John Mousinho's side remain 17th in the Championship with six points from their opening five games.
Neither side could find a breakthrough in a match of few clear chances. Portsmouth edged possession with 53% and both teams managed just three shots on target each, with goalkeepers Aynsley Okonkwo and Dario Bielica making three saves apiece.
Mousinho made four changes to his side in the second half in search of a winner. Ebou Adams replaced Rocco Shein after 69 minutes, followed by a double substitution five minutes later that saw Zak Swanson and Ryan Kavuma-McQueen come on for Jayden Meghoma and Tyrese Shade. Regan Poole entered the fray for the final stages, replacing Terry Devlin.
The game's main flashpoint arrived in the 86th minute, sparking a flurry of yellow cards. Miles Leaburn was booked for Charlton and Portsmouth's Adams followed him into the referee's notebook moments later for his part in the argument. Mousinho himself had been shown a yellow card for dissent four minutes earlier.
"It's a point on the road and we have to take the positives from a clean sheet," said John Mousinho, the Portsmouth manager. "We lacked that final bit of quality in the final third today, but the effort and organisation were there."
The draw extends Portsmouth's recent run to two wins, one draw and two losses in their last five outings. They now turn their attention to a home fixture against Blackburn Rovers next Saturday, a match between two sides separated by just one place in the table.
John Mousinho told reporters he was happy with a point from the goalless draw at Charlton. The result leaves Portsmouth 17th in the Championship with six points from five games. They have scored seven goals and conceded eight this season. Mousinho's side are eight points behind leaders West Ham. They host Blackburn Rovers next on September 19.
