Regan Poole was critical of Portsmouth's attacking output following a 1-0 home defeat to Sheffield United at Fratton Park on Wednesday night. The loss leaves John Mousinho's side 19th in the Championship with just eight points from their opening eight matches.
"I'm so disappointed, there was such an opportunity there," Poole told reporters. The defender started in a 4-2-3-1 formation and felt his side created pressure without the required cutting edge. "We put the backline under pressure, we got into some really good areas, but was it enough to win the game? Probably not."
The result extends a difficult run of form for Portsmouth, whose last win came against Cardiff City on 5 September. Their recent form reads one win, two draws and two losses from their last five games.
The immediate focus turns to halting a slide that has seen them score just nine goals this season while conceding eleven.
Portsmouth lost 1-0 at Southampton on Sunday, 11 October 2026. James Bree scored the only goal after 20 minutes, assisted by Finn Azaz. The defeat, which leaves them 19th with eight points, saw Pompey have 16 shots but only three on target. Manager John Mousinho made four second-half substitutions, including bringing on Owen Bailey for Ebou Adams. They face Sheffield United at Fratton Park on Wednesday, 14 October.
