Portsmouth Football Club is honoring the memory of former player Aaron Cook through a heartfelt fundraising campaign initiated by his widow, Suzanne. Cook, who made one senior appearance for Portsmouth in the 1990s, passed away from cancer on June 4, 2023, at the age of 46. In a powerful tribute, Suzanne organized the '90 Minutes for Cookie' event, which successfully raised over £6,000 for Cancer Research UK and the Football Foundation. This initiative aims to channel Cook's passion for football into a positive force for others facing similar battles. The event took place in Bishops Waltham, where Cook had dedicated his time to coaching young players after his semi-professional career. Suzanne's innovative fundraising idea encourages football teams to contribute before matches and nominate others to do the same, creating a ripple effect of support. The inaugural event featured players from Bishops Waltham Dynamos FC and a special match between the Dynamos senior team and Cookie's XI, showcasing the community spirit that Cook fostered. Suzanne hopes this initiative will evolve into The Cookie Foundation, continuing to raise funds for cancer and football charities in the future, ensuring Cook's legacy lives on through the sport he loved.
