Portsmouth's title-winning goalkeeper Matt Macey has signed for Wycombe in a transfer blow to his former team-mate Will Norris. Macey, 31, had made 98 appearances for Colchester in two seasons after joining from Fratton Park, where he was part of the squad crowned champions under John Mousinho. Wycombe have also bolstered their goalkeeping ranks by recruiting Conor Hazard from Plymouth, where he had turned down a new deal. As a consequence, it is expected to mark the departure of Will Norris, who has still to sign a new deal with the Chairboys. Macey will know the 32-year-old well, having been at Pompey together in the goalkeeping pool during the second half of the triumphant 2023-24 season. Norris, who was a League One ever-present that campaign, remained first-choice for the Blues' return to the Championship, until losing his place to Nicolas Schmid. A 6-1 defeat at Stoke in October 2024 would represent the former Burnley keeper's last appearance under Mousinho and, in February 2025, he departed by mutual consent with 18 months remaining on his deal. He instead signed for Wycombe, where he made 59 appearances in 18 months, while lost in the May 2025 League One play-off semi-final to Charlton. Last term, despite being challenged by Dutchman Mikki van Sas for a first-team spot, Norris still made 40 appearances as they finished a disappointing 11th. Now Michael Duff has decided to overhaul his goalkeeping department this summer, with Norris appearing to no longer have a future at Adams Park following the two new arrivals. Instead Hazard, who was first choice for Plymouth in their 2024-25 Championship season and remained so last term, has joined Wycombe as number one. He will be backed up by former Arsenal man Macey, while Stuart Moore, who spent a week trialling with Pompey last summer, is expected to remain as third choice. The transfer developments are a huge blow for Norris, who had seen the switch to Wycombe as a chance of regular first-team football after his time at Fratton Park came to an abrupt end. He featured 56 times after joining Pompey on a free transfer from Burnley in June 2023, including starting the opening nine games in 2024-25 after reaching the Championship. However, the emergence of Schmid saw him swiftly fall out of favour under Mousinho and he left Fratton Park just six months after capturing League One. Now the Blues title winner could be on the hunt for another club this summer.
