Portsmouth's Championship rivals Stoke City are set to retain the services of Mark Robins after casting their eyes towards John Mousinho. That's with Pompey's Championship rivals preparing to bring in Arsenal under-21 head coach Max Porter to support their under-fire manager. Portsmouth boss John Mousinho was on Stoke City's radar, as they considered the former Coventry boss' position after a disappointing campaign. There's unrest among Stoke fans with their club finishing in the bottom half of the Championship for eight successive campaigns, since being relegated from the Premier League. But it appears the route being taken is to appoint Porter to aid the 56-year-old, following the report from the Daily Telegraph's John Percy. That is being viewed as a show of support for Robins from the club's board and sporting director Jonathan Walters, who himself has also faced fan consternation. With Bristol City turning to Lincoln City's Michael Skubala after showing interest in the Pompey head coach, the two most likely avenues for Mousinho to leave this summer now appear closed. That will be a relief to Blues fans hoping the man who took their club to the League One title and established them in the Championship remains at PO4. Mousinho's future has been the subject of intense speculation since news of Bristol City's interest in the 40-year-old emerged in the days before the season ended. The Pompey boss has been upfront and honest about his future, but has not spoken since the final-day draw with Birmingham City on May 2. When discussing his future amid Bristol City's interest, Mousinho said: 'In these moments either way your legacy and how you're seen by the fans is defined by your answer. So if I said I want to be at Portsmouth for the rest of my life and there's no interest in anything else, which has happened before and is really damaging - I think that is actually really disrespectful to the fans. I would never want to do that, I would never want to lie and I would never want to say I'm here for life. I absolutely love the football club, I make no bones about that. I love living here and you'll see more walking up and down Palmerston (Road) with my family and dog. I love living here, but I don't know what the future holds. It's always complex, it's not just I'm leaving and that's it. It doesn't work like that and vice-versa the club can get rid of me pretty much whenever they want. That's what I'd say. I'm not sitting here actively looking to leave whatsoever. I want to progress the club. We've managed to achieve something this year and I want to build on that next year. By the same token I don't want to disrespect the fans and mug them off - I don't think that's the right thing to do.'
